Adamson Lady Falcons end three-game slide in Onyok Getigan’s debut

After moving on from Air Padda last Friday, the Adamson University Lady Falcons got back on their feet immediately, clinching their first win in the UAAP Season 81 Women’s Volleyball Tournament under new head coach Onyok Getigan, at the expense of the National University Lady Bulldogs, 25-15, 25-19, 25-22, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Getigan, who served as assistant coach before being promoted to the head tactician, is an accomplished high school coach developing Kings Montessori into a powerhouse and taking over the Adamson Girl’s Volleyball program in 2018.

Adamson led for much of the match, immediately doubling up on NU, 16-8, in the first set before staving off a late run in the second frame with an 8-3 run.

The Lady Bulldogs had momentum early in the third frame, leading 6-4. But, NU’s own errors propelled the Lady Falcons to a 16-11 cushion. Steady serving allowed NU to come within two, 21-19, before Adamson broke away thanks to Eli Soyud and Bernadette Flora.

Flora finished with 15 points off 13 attacks, a block, and an ace. Captain Eli Soyud added 12 markers.

NU rookie Ivy Lacsina played through an injured right hand which was heavily-taped against the Lady Falcons. She finished with seven points while Princess Robles led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points.

Both teams play their next matches at the FilOil Flying V Centre. Adamson (1-3) faces Far Eastern University (2-2) on Sunday while NU (1-3) takes on University of Santo Tomas (2-2) on Saturday.
