After a tumultuous weekend, the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas made sure to lift their spirits, taking an 88-87 squeaker over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, Tuesday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
“Siguro ito yung parang bawi ng team after that loss sa San Beda. Masyadong na-down yung team namin,” said interim Perpetual head coach Myk Saguiguit.
Besides the 46-point beatdown they received at the hands of San Beda, Perpetual also relieved Frankie Lim of his duties as head coach. Then, Lim’s prized recruit Ben Adamos stepped up for the team.
Up by just two with 46.7 left, Adamos knocked down a jumper that became the insurance basket for the Altas.
Adamos eventually finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks.
“We needed this win very badly. Tinrabaho ng mga bata,” said Saguiguit.
CJ Cadua knocked down a triple that sliced the lead down to one. Fortunately, time was on the Generals’ side, with 1.5 seconds left on the clock. Kim Aurin then intentionally missed his free throws so that EAC would not have a clean look.
Adamos was not the only one stepping up for the Altas, who went up to 3-5 to create a three-way tie at sixth-place in the NCAA Season 95 Seniors Basketball Tournament.
Tonton Peralta had 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while Jeff Egan added 16 markers. Kim Aurin and Jielo Razon finished with 14 and 12 markers, respectively.
EAC were led by CJ Cadua’s career-high of 22 points built on five triples. Marwin Taiwan added 21 points, while JP Maguliano tallied 15 points and 11 boards.
The Generals dropped to 1-7.
Perpetual play theirfinal game of the round on Friday, August 23 against the San Sebastian Golden Stags. On the other hand, EAC take on the same team on Friday, August 30.
