Defending champions Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors continued their rejuvenated play, winning their fourth straight at the Power Smashers’ expense, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16, in the Premier Volleyball League at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Aside from their imports, the Power Smashers were also without their three Arellano players — Jovielyn Prado, Regine Arocha, and Andrea Marzan — as the Lady Chiefs were competing in the Intercol Tournament in Baguio.
Although the Power Smashers were severely depleted, Pocari Sweat had trouble putting away their younger foes. The Lady Warriors needed spurts of errors from the Power Smashers in the first two sets to seal wins. It was only in the third set that Pocari Sweat exerted their dominance to seal the win.
“Ang problema kasi sa team sinasabayan namin ‘yung galaw ng kalaban which is hindi dapat. Good thing we still had enough to take the win,” said Pocari Sweat head coach Rommel Abella.
The Lady Warriors lorded it over in blocking and serving, getting 16 total points from both categories, while the Power Smashers had just five.
Last year’s All-Filipino Conference Finals MVP Myla Pablo tallied 18 points, while Elaine Kasilag added 12.
The Lady Warriors climbed to second place with a 4-2 record.
UST lefty power hitter Dimdim Pacres led the Power Smashers with 10 points, while Joyce Sta. Rita had six.
The Power Smashers dropped to fourth with a 3-3 slate.
