Jamie Alcoy, Lady Falcons hammer Lady Maroons for solo fourth

Coming off an embarrassing 65-88 loss to the UST Growling Tigresses last Sunday, Jamie Alcoy and the Adamson University Lady Falcons pounded the hapless University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 82-60, Wednesday morning at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

“At least naka-recover yung mga bata after na loss against UST. Kailangan namin maidala ito sa next games namin dahil importante na ang lahat ng natitira sa amin,” said first year Lady Falcons head coach John Kallos, “Sunod-sunod yung games namin this week kaya wala kaming bakasyon, walang strike-strike, kailangan mag-ensayo.”

This is Adamson’s third win in their last four games, beating UP twice during that span. Moreover, the Lady Falcons lift their slate to 4-5 for solo fourth, while the Lady Maroons dropped to a 0-8.

“Siguro, nung una, bago kaming lahat, kahit ako nangangapa pa. Pero ngayon nakaka-adjust na kami at confident na kami,” admitted the youthful mentor.

Jamie Alcoy paced the Lady Falcons in the blowout, scoring 10 of her 17 points off the bench in the opening frame that saw the Lady Falcons take the double-digit lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Nathalia Prado powered the Lady Falcons as well, finishing with a double-double once more with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

“Sabi ko sa kanya, kailangan maging consistent siya. Pansinin mo nanalo kami pag double-double siya,” Kallos remarked about his center.

Adamson’s lead went to as high as 31 points, 78-47, after Kath Araja three with 4:52 left. Araja finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The Lady Falcons shot 48 percent from the field, spiked by 13 triples.

UP, a team that shot just 35 percent from the field, were led by Pat Rodas, Lou Ordoveza, Iriss Isip, and Marian Domingo, as the quartet scored 10 points each. Domingo shot a poor 4-for-16 from the field.

Adamson will have a tough assignment on Saturday, October 21, at 8:00am as they face defending champions NU Lady Bulldogs. UP hope to end their streak on the same day against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws.
