2017 SEABA Championship

IBL cagers power Indonesia in SEABA

Perennial contenders Indonesia will be fielding in a 12-man lineup comprised of cagers from the Indonesian Basketball League, as they go to war in the 2017 SEABA Championship for Men, happening in Manila from May 12 to 18.

CLS Knights Surabaya’s 38-year-old Indonesian-American Mario Wuysang — considered Indonesia’s best point guard — will spearhead the Indons’ attack in the regional tourney as they try to win their nation’s first gold medal since 1996.

Joining Wuysang are the 2014 and 2015 league MVPs Ponsianus Nyoman Indrawan and Adhi Putra from newly-crowned IBL champions Pelita Jaya Energi Mega Persada; and Indo-American Arki Wisnu, Christian Sitepu, Hardianus Lakudu, and Kevin Sitorus from runners-up Satria Muda Pertamina.

Also representing Indonesia are Sandy Febriansyakh, a teammate of Wuysang on the CLS Knights; Diftha Pratama from Garuda Bandung; and Andakara Prastawa Dhyaksa and Abraham Grahita from W88.News Aspac Jakarta.

Naturalized import Jamarr Johnson will reinforce Indonesia in the Southeast Asian tourney. The 6-foot-5 forward out of New Jersey last played for the Knights back in 2016, where he helped his team win the championship. He also won Rookie of the Year and MVP honors that same year.

CLS Knights head coach Wahyu Widayat Jati, he himself a former player in the Indonesia league, will call the shots for the Indons. They will raise the curtains of the seniors’ division cagefest on May 12, Friday, 3:00 PM against Singapore.
