Jeff Chan had a breakout game of the season, registering his first double-double performance of his career.
Jervy Cruz also had a double-double showing and the rest of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters played with a lot of effort in routing the Barako Bull Energy, 99-71.
So what’s the secret to the Elasto Painters’ sudden resurgence?
Head coach Yeng Guiao made it possible.
Despite the absence of their coach, who had to attend a congress for selected members of the House of Representatives, Guiao left a message that everyone surely remembered.
“Medyo natakot rin yung mga players sa sinabi ni Coach Yeng na kung hindi kami mananalo, kailangan gumalaw kami sa players. Ayaw ng mga players na may ma-trade,” said assistant coach Caloy Garcia, who took over coaching the team in the absence of Guiao.
Chan, who finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds, was one of those who responded.
“Natakot yung mga players. Ako nga rin natakot,” said Chan when interviewed by media. “This is the second time na nasabihan niya kami ng ganyan simula nang naging coach namin siya.”
Cruz contributed with 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Elasto Painters dominated from start to finish.
