Coming off their first loss of the season against the San Sebastian Lady Stags last Thursday, the San Beda College Lady Red Spikers got a serving of chicken noodle soup after breezing past the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers 25-17, 25-9, 25-22 in the NCAA Season 92 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
The Mendiola-based spikers suffered a devastating loss last Thursday to the league-leading San Sebastian College Lady Stags and saw their immaculate record stained.
A stark difference from their last outing, San Beda communicated and served well, evidenced by their 10 service aces and JRU’s 32 errors off bad offensive execution.
JRU, however, managed promising starts to each set before collapsing in pivotal moments. The Lady Bombers managed to keep lace in the opening frame before the Lady Red Spikers sprinted to a 16-10 advantage.
The second set belonged to JRU to start but San Beda erased their 3-6 lead and built a commanding 20-8 wall. The Lady Red Spikers then finished with a flourish, quelling a JRU run that cut their five-point lead down to one, 22-21. Following a San Beda timeout, JRU surrendered back-to-back errors setting up Crisselle Amador’s game-winning slam.
Transferee Cesca Racraquin led the Lady Red Spikers with 14 points while Satrianni Espiritu adder 10 markers.
“Hindi pa talaga ako satisfied sa ginagalaw namin. Kita naman na marami pa kaming kailangan ayusin. Okay pa rin na nanalo kami pero siyempre hinahanap ko pa ‘rin ‘yung improvement sa kanila,” said San Beda head coach Nemesio Gavino adding that his team needs to improve their mental toughness further.
Shola Alvarez paced the Lady Bombers with 12 points while Rosalie Pepito contributed 10.
San Beda (4-1) faces the Arellano University Lady Chiefs (3-1) on December 7. JRU (2-2) next plays after the holiday break, taking on the Lady Chiefs on January 4.
