Foton keeps Generika grasping for first win

Coming off a three-week break, the Foton Tornadoes picked up right where they left off and drubbed the Generika Lifesavers 25-13, 25-13, 25-17 for their second win in the 2016 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix held at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The defending Grand Prix champs had each set won by the second technical timeout, sprinting ahead of the mis-receiving Lifesavers with their myriad of offensive weapons.

Foton held a huge lead in the first set, 16-8, at the mandatory break thanks to kills from imports Lindsay Stalzer and Ariel Usher. The Tornadoes then stole away with the second frame, sealing a 16-4 lead after consecutive errors from the Lifesavers. By the third set, Foton had changed their lineup, opting to go All-Filipino after securing a 16-11 advantage.

“Today, my team result is okay. This is normal for Foton. We want to finish first,” thought Foton’s Serbian head coach Moro Branislav.

After giving up just nine errors in their first win over F2 Logistics, the Tornadoes surrendered just 10 errors against the Lifesavers.

Middle blocker led Foton with 11 points while Lindsay Stalzer and Jaja Santiago each had 10 markers.

UST standout Ria Meneses provided eight points for the hapless Lifesavers.

The Foton Tornadoes (2-0) will take on the RC Cola-Army Lady Troopers (1-0) on Saturday, November 5 at 5:00pm. On the other hand, the Generika Lifesavers (0-3) look to bounce back against the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers (0-2) on the same day at 3:00pm.
