ANTIPOLO – Coming off back-to-back losses to open the tournament, Farm Fresh finally broke through, claiming its first win at the expense of Galeries Tower, 25-14, 25-15, 25-12, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Ynares Center here.
The Foxies came out assertive against the Highrisers, taking command from the first set and never relinquishing control, notching their first win and improving to 1-2 in the standings.
Trisha Tubu spearheaded Farm Fresh’s march to the win column, putting up 17 points on 13 attacks and contributing four of the team’s 10 kill blocks in the one-hour, nine-minute match.
Ces Molina and Jolina Dela Cruz, who made her first start of the conference, each added nine points, while Riri Meneses contributed seven points on five attacks and two kill blocks, helping the team bounce back from losses against unbeaten squads Nxled and Cignal.
Alohi Robins-Hardy steered the offense with 12 excellent sets and also added three points, while Alyssa Bertolano and Bia General shared defensive duties, tallying five excellent digs and five excellent receptions.
“I appreciate Galeries team. Now, first game, second game, we didn’t win. But this time, we could win. I’m too happy. Yes. But I appreciate Galeries team,” said Farm Fresh head coach Koji Tsuzurabara.
The Foxies dominated from start to finish, converting 46 attacks compared to just 25 for Galeries Tower, and controlled the net with a 10-3 edge in blocks, leaving the Highrisers struggling to keep pace.
Riding the confidence of their breakthrough victory, Farm Fresh will aim to build momentum when they face ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles next Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Filoil Centre.
For Galeries Tower, the game came after breaking a 17-game losing streak last Saturday, but they were met by a determined Foxies side that never gave them an inch, dropping them to 1-2 in the standings.
No Galeries Tower player reached double digits, with Aiza Maizo-Pontillas leading the team with nine points. Erika Deloria, coming off an 18-point performance against the Thunderbelles, was held to just seven points, while Julia Coronel contributed 13 excellent sets and six excellent digs.
Galeries Tower will look to regroup as they take on Nxled on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., also at the Filoil Centre.
