Hosts PSL-F2 Logistics Manila failed to capitalize on their uplifting result last night, succumbing to Japanese club team Hisamitsu Springs Kobe in straight sets, 15-25, 18-25, 21-25, in the placing phase of the 2016 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Coming up short in their campaign in Group B, Hisamitsu Springs played their match against the local contingent in their bid for fifth place. Although the PSL selection managed to keep the sets close in the first few points, the Japanese side’s stingy defense and swift attack prevailed over the Manila-based team’s erratic play.
Hisamitsu pulled away from a 13-11 deficit in the first set to bury F2 Logistics in a 21-11 hole. The Japanese then took control of the following frame, bursting ahead 22-16 late via strong plays at the net. Japan then put the nails in the coffin, slowly rising to a 22-16 lead in the third set and quelling the hosts’ comeback bid.
“For every point, Japan made us work. There are a very disciplined team. We should learn a lot from this game,” said F2 Logistics head coach Moro Branislav.
Japan National team standouts Yuki Ishii, Miyu Nagaoka, and Risa Shinnabe spearheaded Hisamitsu’s assault. Ishii had her best match of the tournament with 16 points, Shinnabe tallied 14, while Nagaoka added 10.
Lindsay Stalzer led PSL with 15 markers while her fellow American pitched in seven points.
PSL-F2 Logistics will play Bangkok Glass for seventh place tomorrow. Hisamitsu take on Rexona-Sesc for fifth.
