PVL: Cignal boosts semis bid, dims F2 Logistics’ chances

Cignal boosted its chances of making the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference round-robin semifinals, eliminating F2 Logistics, 25-21, 20-25, 25-14, 25-20, Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The HD Spikers rose to 4-3 for fourth while dropping the Cargo Movers (8 pts) at 3-4 along with Choco Mucho (9 pts) at fifth.

Cignal only needs to win against the Flying Titans on Tuesday, 2:30 pm, at Philsports Arena to advance to the next round.

“‘Yung mindset namin magperform nang mabuti, nang maayos and laban talaga. Walang bukas na hihintayin para lang sabihin namin na kaya pa namin,” said HD Spikers coach Shaq Delos Santos.

Ces Molina spearheaded Cignal’s offense with 20 points on 17 attacks while Angeli Araneta followed with 15 points to go with 11 digs.

The HD Spikers did not field Tai Bierria in the first set but they still got the early advantage before F2 Logistics bounced back in the second.

“Actually, yesterday nga napag-usapan naming mga coaches and ‘yung preparation din namin mas nakafocus din kami sa All-Filipino yesterday. Yesterday din hindi gaano maganda ‘yung pakiramdam ni Tai kaya pinagrest namin siya,” shared Delos Santos.

But Cignal’s revenge was louder come the third frame, zooming to a 16-8 spread en route to a dominant 25-14 period.

The Cargo Movers were just within two after a solid block, 18-20, but Molina, Gel Cayuna, and Araneta finished it off on a 5-2 blitz for the win.

Lindsay Stalzer had 26 points for the Cargo Movers while Kalei Mau returned with nine points and seven excellent receptions.
