With the series tied at 3-apiece, it was Heavyweight Cedrick Perez securing the win over John Michael Agno to give the UST Tiger Jins a perfect slate after Day 1 of competition.
Rookie King Philip Pineda blasted Rryel Joshua Ramirez in the 1st round of the men’s finweight match with an imposing 12-3 lead before closing the 2nd round with an 18-6 victory. Last season’s flyweight bronze medalist Rhayzor Catris tied the series with a 9-4 win over Joenel Rendora. Philippine team member Paul Romero escaped Jenar Torillos with a 5-3 win over Jenar Torillos. 3 of Romero’s 5 points would come from the 6 kyonggo’s incurred by Torillos. Frasser Tahil would score the golden point in the early goings of the sudden death round against Joaquin Mendoza to tie the series 2-2. FEU Welterweight John Mirasol would fall into an early 7-3 hole against rookie Aries Apispisan. Mirasol would showcase a highlight round to score 10 points, 8 coming from an array of body kicks, to win the match 13-8. With the series on the line, big men Cedrick Perez and John Michael Agno duked it out in the 7th and final match of the series. Agno would gain a small 5-3 advantage at the end of the 1st round. The 2nd round saw Perez let loose with a series of head and body kicks to win the match 13-11 and give UST another series win.
