Veteran winger Joy Cases led a fast assault as the Air Force Air Spikers romped over the Baguio Summer Spikers, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18 to remain undefeated in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Lyceum standout Cases was the only player who managed double-digits, with 12 points all off attacks. Judy Caballejo added eight points, while Jocemer Tapic managed seven points for the Air Spikers, who had control of the match right from the technical timeout of the match.
The Air Spikers were better in every scoring skill, taking a 42-29 advantage in spikes, 7-1 in block kills, and 8-0 in aces. They also easily controlled Baguio’s attacks, nabbing 34 excellent digs.
Baguio’s only lead in the match came at the start, when they vaulted ahead 4-2. But Air Force quickly tied the match and led throughout the rest, going ahead by as much as eight, 17-9, in the third set.
“Maganda to para sa team namin kasi ngayon, dalawang panalo na lang ang kailangan namin para makapasok sa next round,” said Air Force head coach Jasper Jimenez.
“Pero marami pang kailangan i-improve yung team lalo na sa mga service at receive namin. Wala pang time para maging kampante,” he added.
Mary Ann Atuban led Baguio with eight points, while Maria Tsuchiya managed six.
Air Force (2-0) will next face the UP Lady Maroons (0-1) on Monday, 4 p.m. at the FilOil Flying V Centre. Baguio (0-2) will also face UP on Wednesday, 6 p.m. also at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
