Tuguegarao Perlas surged to its second consecutive win in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League after sweeping Baguio, 25-10, 25-5, 25-14 at the Aquamarine Sports Complex in Lipa, Batangas on Monday.
Solid was Jho Maraguinot in the contest that lasted just 68 minutes, producing 10 points built on six service aces.
But it was not just Maraguinot who delivered.
“Ang pinakaimportante ay yung nagtutulungan kaming lahat at commited kami sa isa’t isa,” Perlas head coach Rei Diaz said.
The Perlas Spikers, who were coming off a win over California Sports Precision, now have six points off a 2-1 record, tying the 2-0 F2 Logistics at the top of the standings.
Tuguegarao blasted the Lady Highlanders in the final set, setting up a 13-point advantage, 23-10, before Baguio chopped the lead to just 10.
A service error from the side of the Lady Highlanders sealed the win for Tuguegarao.
Cza Carandang contributed nine points, Roma Joy Doromal added eight points, and Norielle Ipac drilled in six.
Fhen Emnas glued things together, tossing 16 excellent sets.
For Maraguinot, who was acquired by the Perlas Spikers earlier this year, the Champions League will serve as a confidence builder for her.
“I’m taking it one day at a time. Madami pang dapat ayusin pero nagpapasalamat ako sa teammates ko dahil lagi silang nandiyan,” she said.
Baguio is still at the last spot with a 0-3 standing.
Perlas will take on F2 Logistics next tomorrow at 4:00 PM while Baguio will go up against California Precision Sports earlier that day at 1:30 PM.
