VIGAN, ILOCOS SUR — Cignal sustained its fine start to the 2025 PVL On Tour, making it two consecutive victories with a commanding 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 victory over Capital1, Monday at the Chavit Coliseum here.
Coming off a resounding straight-sets win over Akari yesterday, the HD Spikers showed no signs of slowing down as they overwhelmed the Solar Spikers to momentarily move to the top of Pool B with a clean 2-0 slate.
Capital1 showed significant improvement from their debut loss to Creamline, but Cignal’s firepower and overall cohesion still proved too much to handle.
Gel Cayuna orchestrated a well-balanced offensive assault that saw her tally an impressive 27 excellent sets to go along with five points in the one-hour, 29-minute match.
“Lagi ko namang sinasabi everytime na nananalo kami, sobrang happy and of course proud dahil nagde-deliver. And then siyempre, ‘yung effort din nila pagdating ng training naa-apply nila pagdating ng game, which is lagi naming ine-emphasize sa kanila ‘yun,” said HD Spikers head coach Shaq delos Santos.
“Hopefully, mas ma-improve pa namin dahil syempre ‘yung last three games namin this eliminations mas magiging matindi. So kailangan talaga na mas maghanda pa,” he added.
Erika Santos finished in double-digits anew, scoring 11 points on eight attacks and three kill blocks, while Roselyn Doria-Aquino tallied 10 points for the red-hot Cignal.
Ishie Lalongisip and Jackie Acuña chipped in eight points apiece. Heather Guino-o came off the bench and fired seven points against her former team, providing an extra spark for the HD Spikers.
Second-round pick Jessa Ordiales made her debut and provided immediate impact in the third with three points.
With their system clicking early and contributions coming from all fronts, Cignal looks to carry its momentum into its next match against Creamline on July 1, 6:30 PM, at the Playtime Filoil Centre in San Juan.
Meanwhile, Capital1, which played without head coach Jorge Souza de Brito, has now dropped back-to-back games to open the tournament.
Assistant coach Jerome Guhit called the shots in De Brito’s absence.
Rovie Instrella was the lone Solar Spiker in double digits with 11 points on nine attacks, one ace, and one block.
Trisha Genesis registered nine points on seven attacks and two service aces, while rookie Pia Abbu scored eight points, including two kill blocks.
Iris Tolenada tossed 21 excellent sets laced with two points, while team captain Roma Joy Doromal collected nine excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions.
The Solar Spikers will have an 11-day break before returning to action against Chery Tiggo on July 5, 4:00 PM, at the Ynares Center Montalban.
