Galeries Tower handed Farm Fresh its fifth consecutive loss after a straight-set affair, 25-18, 25-23, 25-16, in a battle of two also-rans in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Saturday afternoon at the Philsports Arena.
The Highrisers found an unlikely hero in France Ronquillo, who delivered a career high 20 points on 16 attacks, three aces, and one block to go along with five excellent digs and five excellent receptions.
Following the win, her side moved to 3-6 in the standings for solo ninth place.
“For me po kasi, gusto ko lang talaga makapaglaro, like magbigay po ng effort para sa team. Basta manalo yung team. ‘Di ko ine-expect na ganiya po yung score ko,” said Ronquillo.
The Highrisers zoomed to a 21-16 advantage in the third frame before finishing it up with a 4-0 run capped off by a Ronquillo combination play.
Roma Joy Doromal added 10 points in the victory while Julia Ipac and Audrey Paran contributed eight points each for Galeries in the one-hour, 34-minute contest.
Renee Mabilangan tossed 20 excellent sets, while Alyssa Eroa registered 26 excellent digs.
“The feeling is great. It’s always good to celebrate a win after a couple of losses. Again, it’s nice to have won today,” said Highrisers assistant coach Godfrey Okumu.
On the other hand, the Foxies continued to struggle, dropping their fifth consecutive game to fall to 2-7 in the standings.
No player from Farm Fresh reached double digits with Chinnie Arroyo and Trisha Tubu scoring eight points each.
The Foxies aim to bounce back against Strong Group on Thursday, 4:00 PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
