Ahomiro hopes she gets to face La Salle again


Graduating middle blocker Amy Ahomiro has had herself quite the career.

After suffering two ACL injuries to start her career, Ahomio played a pivotal role in Ateneo’s back-to-back championship runs in the UAAP.

With her career winding down, Kiwi again helped the Lady Eagles climb back to the Finals. Although she struggled to start the season, Ahomiro’s transition back to middle helped her immensely.

Ahomiro scored nine points with three blocks in Ateneo’s semifinal win over the UP Lady Maroons.

“Every year is different, but it feels good. it was hard to get there this year compared to last year,” Ahomiro told Tiebreaker Times after the match. “I think everyone’s game, all the teams leveled up na, solid. So the competition is getting better and better this year, so i think everyone has to step up talaga every year, and i think we’re able to naman, but we were a little bit slower doing it this year.”

More than anything, Ahomiro wants to end her career with a title. As she has the past five seasons, Ahomiro hopes she gets another crack at La Salle in the Finals.

“I would love to face La Salle again, for sure. The rivalry it’s just so much more intense with them, you know? Super fun. I’m sure they want to face us too, you know. we’re really rivals so it’s really good competition when we face them,” Ahomiro explained.

Kiwi would again get a chance to face Mika Reyes if they meet in the Finals. After her comments about silencing La Salle’s middle hitter before their second round meeting, Ahomiro is aware that she sparked something.

“She’s (Reyes) a great player so if ever i was just saying that she’s so good,” Ahomiro clarified her comments.

“She’s the one that we need to stop sa team. Siguro there’s a lot of them, but since i’m middle, she’s the one in front of me most of the time. Sana, if I work hard enough, I can stop her. But she always has good games and I’m sure she wants to stop me too. But it depends on the day and last time we played them, we just played better, and the time before that, they played better than us so we’re kind of even playing field now so hopefully we play them in the finals and we’ll see what happens.”
