Bojana Todorovic’s superb efforts are one of the reasons behind the solid performance of the Philips Gold Lady Slammers in the ongoing 2015 Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix. Currently sporting a 4-1 record, the Lady Slammers established themselves as one of the title contenders in the import-laden league.
In five games played so far, Todorovic’s calming presence and competitive fire earned them precious wins against other tough teams like the Petron Blaze Spikers, Foton Tornadoes, and the RC Cola Air Force Raiders.
“It’s just that I’m naturally competitive. You know, I want to prove to myself that I can do better,” Todorovic shared with Tiebreaker Times. “And you know, I’m there for my team since it is a war out there. If you don’t give it your everything, you know you’re going to let your team down.”
Moreover, Todorovic’s versatility has made her team more flexible with her ability to be deployed in any position desired. Currently, she is listed as the team’s open hitter but during her time in the States, she also used to play libero and had her run in being an opposite spiker.
With that multi-positional advantage, she has blended well in fortifying the team’s floor defense with Melissa Gohing and, at the same time, giving ample help in the team’s net defense that is currently anchored by Michele Gumabao and Alexis Olgard.
“Yeah, you know what? I actually really played libero for one year and played for the junior national team at one tournament I was an outside hitter and an opposite for the most of my career,” Todorovic further shared. “I feel comfortable anywhere on the court, that’s my thing. I just love the game and see the game from every position because that is what I’ve trained. Wherever you’re going to put me there, I’m just going to do my best.”
“Obviously, you know, it really helps [since] I had a lot of different coaches, a lot of different coaching styles and then I tried to take a little bit from each of those and make my own game. I definitely have to contribute a lot of what I can do and know to them [Philips Gold]. You know, you’re not who you are without your coaches but I also worked hard to get where I am today.”
Now, tougher challenges await the Lady Slammer come the second round. With all of the teams getting familiar with each other’s tendencies, expect Todorovic to raise her intensity further and set the tone for success in Philips Gold’s championship bid.
The team’s next game will be against Foton this coming November 5, 4:15 pm, at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
“Yeah, it’s gonna be a lot tougher because every team now knows their opponent. They know their tendencies and they know what they do,” Todorovic closed. “So it’s going to be a little more difficult you know? To put the ball down and to read. So we’re just going to have to come up with some new things.”
