Facing their stiffest test yet in the competition, Ray Parks and Kiefer Ravena rose to the challenge and joining hands to provide an early spark for the Gilas cadets as the Philippines thwarted Malaysia, 104-42 in the 2015 SEABA Championship Wednesday, at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
Parks and Ravena helped break a 5-all deadlock early as they conspired for an 11-0 run that pushed the Philippines lead to 16-5 against the no. 69 team in the world.
Ravena scored 10 of his 15 points in the first quarter alone to lead six Filipinos in double digits as the team picked up its third straight win in as many days.
The Gilas cadets drew strength from a 34-15 explosion in the second quarter to build a commanding 57-29 advantage at the half and continued to stymie Malaysia with their defense, allowing only 13 points in the second half.
Parks added 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and went 8-for-10 from the foul line. Russell Escoto and Mac Belo scored 14 points each, while Earl Thompson finished with 13.
The Philippines shot above 50 percent (41-for-81), forced 20 turnovers, which led to 25 turnover points, and had a 56-19 advantage in rebounding.
