Alleiah Malaluan draws belief from breakout game as PLDT fights for survival

Following a career performance that ultimately went for naught, rookie Alleiah Malaluan remains confident as PLDT heads into a do-or-die stretch in the round-robin semifinals of the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

The ninth overall pick in the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft delivered her best game as a pro last Sunday, but it was spoiled as the High Speed Hitters failed to close out Creamline in a grueling five-set loss, 25-22, 25-27, 25-19, 26-28, 10-15, before a packed crowd at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Malaluan finished with a career-high 23 points built on 19 attacks and four kill blocks, while also tallying 11 excellent digs and 26 excellent receptions in a well-rounded effort despite the heartbreaking defeat.

Facing a formidable Cool Smashers side in front of a 12,441-strong crowd, Malaluan said she focused on staying composed under pressure while drawing guidance from her coaches.

“What I think worked for me during our game against Creamline is that I always reminded myself to stay focused and calm,” Malaluan told Tiebreaker Times.

“At the same time, I kept in mind the instructions given to me by the coaches.”

As crushing as the loss was, it may have dragged PLDT down in the semifinal standings, but it did little to shake Malaluan’s confidence. She continues to draw belief from her breakout performance as she prepares for their do-or-die stretch.

The High Speed Hitters’ path to the finals now hinges on their remaining assignments. They must sweep Farm Fresh on Tuesday and the surging Cignal side on Thursday to keep their championship hopes alive.

With everything on the line, Malaluan said she will focus on reminding herself of what she is capable of as she looks to help the team survive the crucial stretch ahead.

“I will try my best to keep reminding myself of what I am capable of and to just play, knowing that I am guided by my coaches and teammates on the court.”
