Behind Kiefer Ravena’s late game outburst, the ADMU Eagles staved off a pesky FEU Tamaraws side, 81-78. Ravena unfurled a one-man, seven point barrage in the final two minutes of the game, giving the Eagles their biggest lead of the game, 75-66. The second-generation star also drained his share of late game free throws, which sealed the game for Ateneo.
FEU did threaten to grab hold of the game with Fred Tamsi draining a late game trey, which cut the Eagle’s lead, 73-75 with 28 seconds remaining in the game. The Tams would then pay the foul game, answering every Eagle 2 for 2 conversion from the charity stripe with a quick lay-up of their own. FEU star combo guard, Mike Tolomia had a chance to tie the game after Kiefer missed on one of his final two charities, but Tolomia’s half-court heave would clank off the backboard.
The older Ravena finished with a game-high 23 points despite shooting a dismal 5 for 15 from the floor, a season-high 7 assists and five boards. His younger brother, Thirdy finally scored his first basket in the Senior’s Division and finished with four points and five rebounds.
With both teams ranked in the top half of the league in offensive efficiency, neither could pull away with a comfortable lead. As they traded baskets, the game was stuck in deadlock at halftime, 35-35. Springy Forward, Chris Newsome powered the Ateneo cause with an 11-point first half outburst, finishing with an efficient 17 points off seven for nine shooting.
The third quarter saw Ateneo finally pull away with veteran forward, Von Pessumal draining all four of his shots in the quarter for nine of Ateneo’s 23 third quarter points. Pessumal finished with 12 points on four for five shooting.
Despite the loss, FEU’s versatile forward, Mark Belo continued his hot shooting for the season. Belo scored a team high 22 points on 9 for 14 shooting to add to his bid for season MVP. Before fouling out late in the fourth quarter, Anthony Hargrove put together a cool double-double of 13 points and 13 boards before fouling out of the game. Mike Tolomia’s 15 points came on a paltry five for 16 shooting, missing all six of his attempts from beyond the arc.
