Gilas Pilipinas Women failed to advance past the pool stage of the 2026 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series-Manila stop on Thursday at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
The Philippines first absorbed a 14-9 loss to Germany before getting overwhelmed by Team USA, 21-10.
With the result, no Philippine team will see action in Friday’s knockout stage after Manila Gilas also fell short in the qualifying draw.
“It’s always a learning lesson, I think. We may not have the best result, but we always learn. There’s always something to take away,” said Camille Clarin of Gilas Women.
Points were hard to come by against Germany as Gilas shot just 8-of-24 from the field while missing all six of its deuce attempts.
Mikke Cacho and Clarin paced the Philippines with three points each.
Against Team USA, Gilas kept things close early and even held an 8-6 lead midway through the contest before the Americans shifted gears.
Behind Joyce Edwards, Team USA unleashed a decisive 9-1 run to blow the game wide open.
A deuce by Mikaylah Williams sealed the victory with 1:24 remaining.
Tantoy Ferrer led the Philippines with four points against Team USA, while Cacho chipped in three.
“We try not to see being undersized as a weakness. We counter it with our tempo, speed, and outside shooting. It’s really about playing our own game rather than focusing on how big our opponents are,” added Clarin.
Team USA swept Pool play and advanced to the knockout stage alongside Germany.
Also topping their respective pools were China’s Beijing, Azerbaijan’s Neftchi SOCAR, and Lithuania.
In the quarterfinals, Beijing will face Germany, Lithuania will take on China, Neftchi SOCAR will battle Mongolia, and Team USA will meet the Ulaanbaatar Amazons.
Edwards of Team USA, Brianna Fraser of Neftchi SOCAR, and Zhang Zhiting of Beijing emerged as the top scorers of the group stage with 18 points each.
