Alaska, Rain or Shine want balik-imports Dozier, Chism for Commissioner’s Cup

Alaska may be in the deep hunt for its second championship in three seasons, but the team already has a plan as to which import it will tap for the Commissioner’s Cup.

“Rob Dozier is definitely on top of our list,” Alex Compton told Tiebreaker Times. “He led us to the championship two seasons ago, then we went to the semifinals and lost to Purefoods last season. He definitely deserves another shot.”

But to get Dozier, a 6-foot-8 forward who once suited up for the Miami Heat, the import will have to secure clearance from his previous team.

“He asked some friends overseas on how to do it and it isn’t easy,” added Compton. “Like in the case of Wayne Chism before. He came in as a last-minute replacement because he couldn’t secure a clearance right away.”

Chism is another player on top of Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao’s priority list. The import got injured in Game 2 of their best-of-five semis series against Talk ‘N Text in the Commissioner’s Cup, but despite that, Chism played through pain and tried to lead his team.

“I think we were able to play well even with a lot of players on the injured list because of Wayne Chism. I think he deserves another shot,” added Guiao.

Rain or Shine management has been communicating with Chism and the import is currently working out on how to opt out of his contract with his current team.

“He wants to come here. Maybe because he believes he has unfinished business to settle in the PBA,” added Guiao.
