For Alex Compton, it’s better for him not to relax at this stage despite having a twice-to-beat chance of making it to the championship round in the next two games against Rain or Shine. His Alaska team was in a similar situation last conference when a sudden twist of fate happened – an unfortunate slip by JVee Casio that cost the Aces the last two games and an opportunity to play in the finals.
“I just hope history won’t repeat itself,” Compton told Tiebreaker Times. “But as far as my chances are concerned, I will only like my team’s chances if ever we get four wins.”
The Aces won over the Elasto Painters via the back door, 93-88. Compton and his crew fought back from 19 points down before pulling this one off over their rivals. The victory was reminiscent of Game 1, when they battled back from 17 points down before hacking out a victory. For Compton, more than the resiliency of his team to bounce back, it’s also a reflection of how tough Rain or Shine is as an opponent.
“I’m not kidding when I said we’re learning a lot of stuff from Coach Yeng (Guiao). They play the same all the time, work the same play all the time. You went up, you keep playing hard. These are the things we want to emulate,” Compton told sportswriters after the game.
Now the Aces lead the series, 3-2, but Compton said the worst thing they could do is become complacent.
“Without question it won’t be easy and without question there’s no guarantee that we’re there (finals). So, we have no time for complacency,” added Compton.
