Kianna Dy, La Salle won’t change swag despite some criticisms

It comes as no surprise, most especially to the Lady Spikers, that they get on a people’s nerves online.

Detractors were in full-force when the De La Salle University Lady Spikers took care of rivals Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles last Saturday in another highly-anticipated match-up.

Pictures surfaced after the game of the Lady Spikers pointing and jeering at the other side of the net after that match that caused an online debate: Do the Lady Spikers cross the line with their so-called swag?

Senior opposite hitter Kianna Dy thinks that all of that is just part of the game. Dy, after leading the Lady Spikers with 21 points against Ateneo, again picked up the offensive load in La Salle’s most recent win against the National University Lady Bulldogs.

The 22-year-old tallied 14 points and was incredibly lively when the Lady Spikers erased huge deficits in the first and second sets.

Dy uses her on-court swag to keep her focused on the match.

“Hindi naman siya yabang, it’s our way of showing confidence. Who doesn’t want to celebrate when they get a point? I think it’s natural, it’s really part of the game,” pointed out the 5-foot-11 spiker.

And she wouldn’t change who she or her team is just to appease a few ticked-off fans on the internet

“Kung affected sila (fans), ganoon siguro ‘yung tingin nila pero, for us (players), hindi siya personalan.

“Matagal nang issue ‘yan. Wala, we just shrug it off,” the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Finals Most Valuable Player added.

La Salle’s legendary head coach Ramil De Jesus echoes the same sentiments.

“Well, hindi mo naman pwedeng i-please lahat ng tao. Kung nayayabangan sila sa team namin, dati naman nang may swag ‘yung team. Hindi naman mayabang ‘yung players ko. Inside the court, maari. Pero outside, hindi talaga,” asserted the 10-time UAAP champion mentor.

“Lagi ko lang sinasabi na kung ano ‘yung character niyo, ‘yun ang ilabas niyo.”
