UE coach hopes Lady Warriors show winning attitude in Season 78

After the UE Lady Warriors shocked Ateneo de Manila in their UAAP Season 78 women’s basketball opener, head coach Aileen Lebornio hopes to see more of the winning attitude from her team.

“Pinaghandaan talaga namin. Noong nagstart [ako], sabi ko in three years time dapat umangat na tayo,” Lebornio said after UE stunned the Lady Eagles Sunday.

“This year sana lumabas na ang winning attitude ng mga bata. Three years na kaming magkakasama.”

Showcasing a topnotch effort on defense, UE was able to hold down Ateneo to only 7 first half points and also took away the games of its bigs like Danica Jose and Kristina Deacon.

Legornio says defense was the focal point of their season opener, as the squad held Ateneo down to only 22 percent field goal shooting.

Legornio added it took the Lady Warriors three weeks to prepare for the Lady Eagles, and the result was something that may jumpstart a culture of winning for the team.

Handling a core that has been together for three years, Legornio hopes to improve on the team’s 3-11 record last year, and targets the playoffs of this season.
