Team Secret is heading to the playoffs of the VALORANT Champions 2021 after an emphatic 2-0 victory over Team Vikings in the Group C decider match on Wednesday (Manila time) in Berlin, Germany.
The Filipinos ran away early in Game One, putting up a huge 8-2 advantage in Haven to bury the Brazilians.
Gabriel “sutecas” Dias (Astra) delivered in the ensuing round with a Clutch play, taking down both Riley “witz” Go (Brimstone) and Jim “BORKUM” Timbreza (Astra) in the 11th to stop the bleeding for Team Vikings.
It was a nip and tuck affair from there before the Filipinos took a 13-6 Game One for the 1-0 advantage.
Team Vikings kept the scores close early in Game Two, but a win from Team Secret in the 8th round turned into a 7-3 rally which put the Filipinos ahead, 11-6, in Icebox.
An almost flawless 18th round from Team Vikings sliced the lead to just four, but Team Secret made sure to seal the deal by scoring the next two rounds, 13-7.
“To be honest I still couldn’t believe it ‘cause even you guys couldn’t believe it, right?” said Jayvee “DubsteP” Paguirigan. “I’m so speechless right now that I don’t know what to say but I’m really thankful to everyone who believed in us.”
Team Secret finished second in Group C with a 2-1 card –behind Masters Berlin champion Gambit Esports.
The all-Filipino squad will face off against Ascend, the top-ranked squad in Group A, in the quarterfinals tonight.
