Team Secret had an impressive start in the Valorant Champions Tour 2023: LOCK//IN as they swept powerhouse Team Liquid, 2-0, being hailed as the biggest upset in the tournament yet in São Paulo, Brazil on Thursday (Manila time).
Adrian “Invy” Reyes, the new member of the team, showed out on the international stage after putting up a 39-kill and 18-assist performance in two games.
Secret dominated the first half of the opening match in Icebox, taking a comfortable 10-2 lead highlighted by Invy’s quadruple kill in round two. Team Liquid however scored six straight rounds after the pistol round to come within three, 8-11. But unfortunately for them, that was their last as TS took the next two cantos to close out Game One.
It was the same storyline in Map Two at Fracture as Secret was once again able to take a six-point, 9-3 lead early. No 3-9 curse for them as they finished it off in Round 20 capped by an Invy double kill.
Jessie “JessieVash” Cuyco, said in the post-game interview that he believes they have a legitimate chance to win the tournament despite being labeled as underdogs.
“We’re just here to play our game. We know we have a chance to win this tournament also,” said JessieVash who finished with 39 kills and 17 assists.
Team Secret is composed of Adrian “Invy” Reyes, Jessie “JessieVash” Cuyco, Jayvee “DubsteP” Paguirigan, Jim “BORKUM” Timbreza and Jeremy “Jremy” Cabrera.
With the win, TS has advanced to the quarterfinals of the bracket stage and will be taking on the European team Natus Vincere.
The winner of the VCT 2023: LOCK//IN would grant their region an extra slot at the Valorant Masters 2023.
