SMB lands Arana in 3-team deal

The San Miguel Beermen added depth to their wings after landing Ryan Arana via a three-way deal.

In the latest of the league’s player movement, Arana moves to the Beermen to join a handful of perimeter players which includes Chris Lutz, Marcio Lassiter, and Ronald Tubid.

Barako Bull Energy receives Ronald Pascual, the Beermen’s third overall pick during the 2014 PBA Rookie Draft who was used sparingly in the 2014-15 season.

Rain or Shine settles for a 2016 second round pick from the Energy, as they continue to clear some space for their loaded backcourt.

With the additions of Maverick Ahanmisi and Josan Nimes from the 2015 PBA Draft plus holdovers like Jeff Chan, Jireh Ibanes, Chris Tiu, and Jericho Cruz, Elasto Painters head coach Yeng Guiao will still have a handful of options in the backcourt.

In the trade, the Beermen gets a shot-creator in Arana, who can attack the basket and make his own shot. It is also an assurance for them should their main wings like Lassiter and Lutz suffer from injuries.

Pascual joins an Energy wing rotation which includes JC Intal, Dylan Ababou, and James Forrester. His main weapon is still his three-point shot although he has to step up defensively in the perimeter.
