San Beda may be out for redemption in the ongoing NCAA Season 97 seniors basketball tournament but it is also calling for a bigger battle to stop.
For the season, the Red Lions’ warm-up shirts have two things printed on them.
On the front, it says ‘END THE WAR’ while at the back, the words ‘PRAY FOR PEACE’ with a blue and yellow symbol printed on it.
Yes, despite being thousands of kilometers away from Ukraine, San Beda is joining hands with the rest of the world in calling for a stop to the ongoing war waged by Russia on the Eastern European nation.
“It’s our call for peace.
“We’re all praying for an end to this conflict soon so it doesn’t escalate and involve other countries,” said Red Lions team manager Jude Roque on his team’s mantra for the season. “Let’s just play sports and have a friendly competition.”
Since February 24, Russia has waged a war with Ukraine with the goal of annexing the nation.
Thousands of lives have been lost in the war.
And San Beda hopes that other schools heed the call as well.
Currently, the Red Lions are 4-0 in the tournament in which they are trying to reclaim the championship they lost three years ago.
