In a battle between two blueblood programs, Kansas was handed a beatdown by Kentucky, suffering a 62-80 loss in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, Sunday morning (Manila time) at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas.
The Wildcats now holds a 23-10 overall record over the Jayhawks, winning four of the last five in the series. Moreover, Kentucky improved to 17-4 overall while dropping Kansas to 17-3.
Filipino-American Remy Martin was silenced in the contest, putting up just five points on 2-of-4 shooting from the field with a rebound and an assist.
It was a struggle for Kansas in the first half, allowing Kentucky to go a blistering 61.8-percent from the field to fall behind 51-31.
Though the Jayhawks were able to chop the lead down to 62-48 with 13:09 remaining, the Wildcats were able to restore order, raising the lead to 21 in the last five minutes of the contest.
Keion Brooks Jr. led Kentucky with 27 points while Oscar Tshiebwe tallied a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Kellan Grady and Jacob Toppin got 12 and 11 points, respectively, as well.
Kansas’ Ochai Agbaji was limited to just 13 points on 4-of-14 shooting by Kentucky. 2 Christian Braun also had 13 points.
Martin and the Jayhawks will next face Iowa State on Wednesday (Manila time).
