Phoenix Super LPG has replaced Dominique Sutton in hopes of making one last push in the closing stages of the 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup.
Du’Vaughn Maxwell will be the import of the Fuel Masters in the final stretch of the ongoing conference.
Team manager Paolo Bugia confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.
With Paul Harris’ hamstring injury not recovering as fast as the team wanted to, the Fuel Masters decided to get Sutton.
The 6-foot-5 native of Durham, North Carolina though could not get the wins for Phoenix, going just 1-3 in the four games he played.
Sutton ended up with averages of 16.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.
“Sutton was good but with a record of 1-3 under him, we are looking for someone who can be a better fit with the system and the personnel of this team,” said Bugia.
Maxwell, meanwhile, is a 6-foot-6 product of University of Hampton.
After graduating in 2014, Maxwell played in Caballeros de Culiacan (Mexico), Island Storm (Canada), Penarol (Uruguay), Union Basket Chartres Masculin (France), and, most recently, SK Cherkasy Monkeys (Ukraine).
The 30-year-old Maxwell left Ukraine on January 28.
Phoenix still has two games left on its late, versus Alaska on March 3 and versus Meralco on March 11. The Fuel Masters are currently in eighth place in the standings with a 4-5 slate.
“Hopefully we can get the wins,” said Bugia.
