PBA backs Gilas, names 17-man national team pool


The PBA Board of Governors came with a resolution to fully support the national team, Gilas Pilipinas, the league announced Wednesday.

The PBA announced 17 players to the Gilas pool as well. They are June Mar Fajardo and Marcio Lassiter of San Miguel, Japeth Aguilar, LA Tenorio, and Greg Slaughter of Barangay Ginebra, Calvin Abueva of Alaska, Paul Lee, Gabe Norwood, and Jeff Chan of Rain or Shine, Marc Pingris and Ian Sangalang of Star, Troy Rosario, Jayson Castro, Ranidel de Ocampo, Matt Ganuelas, and Ryan Reyes of Talk ‘N Text, and Terrence Romeo of Globalport.

Andray Blatche and Jordan Clarkson are also expected to be part of the future Gilas team.

Gilas Pilipinas has until October 18 to decide whether to join or not the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will happen on July 2016.

In an earlier report by Spin.ph, the PBA Board of Governors, led by Chairman Robert Non, already hinted at willingness to adjust schedule and lend players to the national team.

The PBA will allow Gilas players to train on Mondays while the final 12 shall be announced on January 2016.
