NU’s 2-4 record places them at 5th after the first round


The Lady Bulldogs concluded the first round of eliminations in the UAAP Table Tennis Tournament with a win-loss record of 2-4, leaving them at the 5th spot at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym.

 

NU vs FEU (0-1)

 

The NU Lady Bulldogs began the elimination round ready to face consistent Final Four contenders, Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws. NU would ultimately lose, 3-1. Only Rodriguez won for the Lady Bulldogs.

 

NU vs ADMU (1-1)

 

The Lady Bulldogs faced the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Paddlers next. NU would drop the 1st match-up of Rodriguez, who went head-to-head with ADMU’s dela Cruz, 1-3. It would be Buendia, coming back from a 0-2 set record and grab the win, 3-2 that sparked the Lady Bulldogs comeback run. With the series tied 1-1. The doubles match pair of Jadloc and Torres showcased their prowess, defeating ADMU’s doubles competitors, 3-0. Santiago completed NU’s comeback by winning the 1st set, and forcing a 5th set, where she eventually won.

 

NU vs UP (1-2)

 

With a 1-1 record, the Lady Bulldogs faced the defending champions University of the Philippines Lady Maroons. NU, again tried to make a comeback behind Rodriguez’s win, but failed to finish strong, and eventually lose, 1-3 to UP.

 

NU vs UST (1-3)

 

The second day of eliminations would feature much of the same for the Lady Bulldogs. Going against the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses first, the Lady Bulldogs struggled and finally gave UST the win, 1-3. This time, only Jolina Santiago was able to get a win for NU.

 

NU vs AdU (2-3)

 

The match-up against Adamson University would prove to be a good one for NU. The Lady Bulldogs started slow, dropping the first match-up. Rodriguez impressively gave NU a win in the 2nd match-up against A. Santiago. The Lady Bulldogs would fail to capitalise on the Rodriguez win and lose the doubles match. Down 2-1 in the series, NU’s K. Buendia and J. Santiago rallied to beat AdU’s Diaño and Quiñosa in close games.

 

 

NU vs DLSU (2-4)

 

The eliminations ended with a battle against the perennial favourites De La Salle Lady Paddlers. The Lady Paddlers would prove to be the too strong for the Lady Bulldog and sweep them 3-0.
