NorthPort made it clear that Jervy Cruz remains a big part of its plans moving forward, as the Batang Pier management gave the grizzled big man a contract extension on Friday.
The 34-year-old was among the four players gifted with new one-year deals, the others being Jonathan Grey, LA Revilla, and incoming sophomore point guard Renzo Subido.
Their signing was graced by team manager Bonnie Tan, asst. team manager Waiyip Chong, and agents Marvin Espiritu and Edgar Mangahas, who posted the photos online.
Cruz, Revilla, and Subido are managed by EMBM owned by Espiritu and Matthew Manotoc, while Grey is under Mangahas.
The Batang Pier had a disastrous campaign in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup. They only won once in 11 games, missing the playoffs after a semifinal finish in the 2019 Governors’ Cup.
However, the likes of Cruz and Subido were among the few bright spots during their run in the bubble.
Cruz posted per-game averages of 6.2 points and 5.5 rebounds, including a 15-point, 17-rebound performance in their last game of the eliminations versus Meralco. They lost, 73-80, however.
Subido, on the other hand, had himself a promising rookie year with norms of 6.1 markers and 2 2 assists. His career game so far was versus Ginebra, where he had 15 points and eight dimes.
Meanwhile, Revilla served as one of the floor generals of a team battered by injuries. Thrice a starter for Coach Pido Jarencio, the La Salle product had 2.2 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.
Grey, lastly, failed to see action in the bubble no thanks to an injury he sustained during the 2019 season.
