After an 0-4 start to its 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup campaign, Northport will be changing its import.
The Batang Pier will bring in Kevin Murphy to replace Marcus Weathers.
The development was confirmed to Tiebreaker Times by Northport head coach Bonnie Tan.
Weathers was supposed to be San Miguel’s import but suddenly replaced him with Cameron Clark.
Though Clark has been outstanding for the Beermen, Weathers could not lead the Batang Pier to a victory so far despite his averages of 31.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.8 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game.
Now, Tan and Northport will hope that Murphy gives them the elusive win.
Murphy was San Miguel’s import back in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup. He averaged 30.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists but the Beermen fell to Alaska in the quarterfinals.
Since his stint with San Miguel, the now-32 year old Murphy played for Shabab Al Ahli (Dubai), Muharraq (Bahrain), G League Ignite, and Kazma (Kuwait).
Murphy is expected to make his debut when Northport faces Ginebra on Friday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
