NCAA 91 Men’s Beach Volleyball Day 4: Sweet sweep for Perpetual

In the fourth day of the NCAA Season 91 Men’s Beach Volleyball Tournament held at the Boardwalk Beach in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, the duo of Rey and Relan Taneo of University of Perpetual Help Altas successfully nailed a 9-0 elimination round sweep to automatically gain a Finals berth.

With the Taneo brothers displaying great timing and effective communication, they successfully held off Howard Mojica and Kerth Melliza of the hard-hitting EAC Generals in straight sets, 21-16, 21-14.

“Actually hindi naman namin ineexpect iyan, we just play,” UPHSD head coach Sammy Acaylar told Tiebreaker Times. “Maybe ‘yung dalawang players ko kasi they have so many experiences [in playing] beach volleyball because they came from Cebu.”

During the stepladder semis phase, the Philip Bagalay and Peejay Cuzon combo of the Mapua Cardinals earned the right to face the second-seeded Generals after they dodged the LPU Pirates’ Joeward Presnede and Abram Abrencillo via a 21-12, 21-16 win. Moreover, the Cardinals were also responsible for eliminating the College of Saint Benilde Blazers, the defending champions, with a commanding 21-11, 20-22, 15-4 win.

The game between EAC and MIT will be tomorrow, 8:00 am, and the winner of the said match will earn the right to face the undefeated Altas.
