Heading into the main event of ONE: Roots of Honor, the question was who had the greater knockout power, Martin Nguyen or Narantungalag Jadambaa?
Friday evening, the Vietnamese-Australian sensation proved that he has it, knocking out the Mongolian with a huge flying knee in the second round to retain the ONE Featherweight World Championship.
“Look, we knew he had power in his hands. He’s one of my idols but it had to happen. It is what is. On to the next,” expressed Nguyen.
Nguyen, who was fighting inside the SM Mall of Asia Arena for the fourth time, set up the finish with a right leg kick that former champion Jadambaa clearly felt during the second round.
With Jadambaa trying to ease pressure off his left knee, Nguyen picked that moment to throw a huge flying knee to knock Jadambaa out just 1:07 left in the round.
“Many would say they’ll fight Jadambaa, but when it comes to the crunch, no one would bite it. This is my division,” declared the 30-year-old.
This is Nguyen’s 7th knockout win to go up to 12-3.
On the other hand, the 43-year-old Jadambaa dropped to 14-6.
