World no. 14 Margie Didal put on a show in the Madrid Urban Sports tournament, taking silver in the virtual meet, Sunday morning (Manila time).
The tournament itself had a unique format with five judges, namely Anthony Claravall, Danny Wainwright, Jesus Fernandez, Vanessa Torres, and Alex Braza, picking the winner of each knockout match. No draws were allowed.
In the finale, a flawless rail trick by world no. 43 Nanaka Fujisawa of Japan got the nod of all five judges to seal the deal.
Still, it was a thriller of a tournament for 21-year-old Cebuana.
Didal, who defeated no. 28 Marina Gabriela in the opening round, needed to gut out a 3-2 victory over no. 8 Gabriela Mazetto. Claravall, Wainwright, and Fernandez all scored the contest for the Filipina.
Fujisawa, on the other hand, had the run of her life, wiping out both th no. 5 Candy Jacobs and no. 2 Rayssa Leal enroute to the finale.
Didal recorded all her tricks in Cebu City.
Didal, the first-ever Asian Games gold medalist in skateboarding, is looking to punch her ticket to the Tokyo Olympics.
