Lady Tamaraws outlasts Lady Bulldogs in thriller

The FEU Women’s Badminton Team outlasted their opponents from NU in today’s fixture at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall. The Lady Tamaraws won the three matches needed to win the tie against the Lady Bulldogs.

For the first singles match, Thea Pomar of FEU was pitted up against NU’s Marinel Diansay. In the first set, Diansay had a commanding lead over Pomar only for the former to lose her composure and allow the latter to force a deuce at 20-20. With her confidence broken, Pomar capitalized and won the first set 23-21. The second game was a different story. Still reeling from her loss in the first set, Diansay led from the start only for Pomar to equalize at 7-7. Once she equalized, there was no turning back for Pomar as she maintained her lead throughout the set and eventually won 21-14.

The second singles match was a different story compared to the first. Jiselle Capillo won this match for NU against FEU’s Michal Duquilla. Capillo was dominant in her first game and won 21-14. Duquilla put up a better fight in the second set and it was a thrilling encounter with her and Capillo repelling each other’s attacks. Ultimately, Capillo held on to win NU the match with a score of 21-19 versus Duquilla.

Loverly Magallano and Amica Du-ay enlisted in doubles duty for NU with Pomar and Hannah Tudtud doing the same for FEU. The Lady Tamaraws needed two games to win this match for the Lady Bulldogs gave them a run for their money. The first set was a tight affair with FEU just edging it 21-17. NU then recovered and came back in the second game, winning it 21-15 with Magallano and Du-ay leading all throughout. Magallano and Du-ay then tired out close to the end of third set, giving their FEU counterparts the initiative. Pomar and Tudtud eventually won the third set and the match for FEU with a score of 21-14.

In comparison to the first doubles match, the second one was a straightforward win for NU. Lady Bulldogs’ Capillo and Diansay went up against FEU’s Duquilla and Maridel Rivera for this game. The Lady Bulldogs won both sets with scores of 21-15 and 21-14 for the first and second sets respectively. While it wasn’t an easy win for NU, momentum was with them all the way enabling them to ward off FEU.

A three-game thriller between Magallano (NU) and Tudtud (FEU) capped off the tie. Magallano won NU the first set with a score of 21-16. FEU’s Tudtud came back with a 21-13 win of her own in the second set. Come the third set, it was obvious that Magallano was shell shocked at losing the second set. Magallano’s body language reeked of tiredness and it showed. Tudtud won 21-13 having made light work of her Magallano in this game.

Next up for NU is ADMU while FEU shall face off against UST. Both games will start at 1:00PM in the Rizal Memorial Badminton Center on September 27, 2015.
