La Salle cruise past Adamson, secure twice-to-beat advantage


The De La Salle University solidified a twice-to-beat incentive in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 78 women’s basketball tournament after another masterful display, this time against Adamson University, for a 78-62 win Wednesday at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The Lady Archers quickly erased a 5-11 deficit after shifting to high gear and going on a 21-3 run to hold a 26-14 lead late in the first quarter.

Ara Abaca, Camille Claro, and Khate Castillo each converted three-pointers during the ferocious run.

In the third quarter, Princess Cochico and Jonalyn Lacson pulled the Lady Falcons to narrow it to 41-46, but an 11-0 response by La Salle from the exploits of Marga Dagdagan and Abaca restored a double-digit lead for the Taft side, 57-41.

La Salle were never threatened from that point, cruising through the fourth period to earn its 10th victory in 11 outings.

The win gives La Salle a twice-to-beat edge heading into the Final Four. Adamson dropped to 3-8, losing eight straight matches.

Castillo led four La Salle players in double-digits with 12 points and added 6 assists. The Lady Archers shot 36.8 from three-point area and assisted 18 of 27 field goal makes.

La Salle had a 49-29 lead in rebounding and transition once again, holding a 24-8 fastbreak points lead.

Lacson led the Lady Falcons with 17 points while Cochico chipped in 13 markers.
