Kat Tolentino on Ateneo return: Now’s not the time to decide

It has been three months since the UAAP Season 82 was halted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and one of its showpiece events, women’s volleyball, was terminated.

One of the affected athletes is Ateneo opposite hitter Kat Tolentino.

The Lady Eagle admitted in the recent episode of Tiebreaker Vods’ So She Did, presented by SMART, that she has not committed to any decision as of yet regarding her return for her final playing year, which was cut short by the league’s cancellation.

Pending the approval by the league’s Board of Trustees, the league has said that it will most likely give eligibility extensions to student-athletes who should have played in the second semester of Season 82.

“All the fifth-year players, for as long as they will still be enrolled in the upcoming school year, they will be allowed to play,” said Executive Director Rebo Saguisag during last Tuesday’s PSA Forum.

For Tolentino — who will turn 26 next year — she has yet to decide whether she will return or not.

“Yeah, of course, that is the question thrown out there,” Tolentino shared.

“Like as I’ve said before, ’cause a lot of people have asked me this. But I think for me, it’s not something I can’t decide on right now.”

As of now, Tolentino is in Canada with her family. She admitted that she has yet to join the Lady Eagles’ online training sessions, instead opting to join Coach Oliver Almadro’s other team — Choco Mucho.

“If anything, it’s still like next year [for] the possibility right? And of course, I’d be thankful if they allow me to go back, but I can’t say anything [right now] sorry,” she said.

“But I can’t [also] say anything right now if I would want to go back just because like… We’re living in such a weird situation right now and I don’t know where I’ll be next year, or if I’ll still be here in Canada or whatever.”
