Jomary Torres feels invincible in Manila

It has been two years since Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres set foot inside the Mall Of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

Now, with a little over a week until her return, the Zamboanga Del Norte native will step back into the venue where she last won a contest in ONE Championship.

Torres looks to end an alarming four-match slide against Jenny “Lady GoGo” Huang at ONE: Fire and Fury on January 31.

“I am really excited to compete in front of Filipinos again. They push me to be at my best. Expect [me] to be really motivated every time I hear my compatriots scream in the arena,” Torres said.

“There are a lot of Filipinos abroad where I usually compete, but it’s different here. Your friends and family are here to support you and that’s a big help.”

Torres has competed seven times inside the ONE Circle, but out of the seven bouts, she has only competed once in her home country.

Her shining moment was against April Osenio at ONE: Global Superheroes in Manila. “The Zamboanginian Fighter” won by first-round TKO after surviving repeated submission attempts from the Team Lakay representative.

She hopes to replicate her success next week.

“I was really motivated during that match because it was the first time I competed in Manila for ONE. I was really eager to win it in front of my countrymen,” Torres said.

“That’s the type of motivation that I feel this time. I want to get that elusive win, and I want to exceed the performance that I had here two years ago.”

Although Torres understands it will be far from easy against Huang, she remains confident. She also feels invincible in her home country.

“Though I lost in my previous bouts, I won’t allow myself to lose in the Philippines. Not in front of my family and friends,” she said.

“I can’t imagine the additional strength that I will get once I hear the cheers of Filipinos in the arena. I will give my all on January 31 and I’ll start the year with a win.”

Torres chases that elusive victory as she takes Huang in ONE: Fire and Fury on January 31 at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
