Francisco drops UD to ‘passive’ Rigondeaux

Filipino featherweight Drian Francisco lost to Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux earlier today in the undercard of the Miguel Cotto – Saul Alvarez card at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Francisco struggled to find his rhythm against the very elusive Rigondeaux, who utilized effective footwork to complement his technical offense and frustrate the Filipino. The Cuban was able to sneak in a few shots but failed to execute combinations.

In the latter rounds, the Filipino failed to connect on his opponent and eventually gassed out. Rigondeaux continued weaving and counter-punching his way to a win in his US return.

The Florida-based Rigondeaux, who makes a return to the ring after an 11 month layoff, kept his unblemished record in sixteen fights. His performance, however, drew the ire from the fans due to the lack of aggression on his part, earning boos from the packed crowd.

On the other hand, Francisco suffered his fourth defeat in his ten year boxing career, splitting his last four outings this 2015.
