Foton looking at tough road to semifinals

In the buildup for the 2016 AVC Women’s Club Championship, Foton Pilipinas set their goal for a semifinals finish.

Given the team’s youth and make-up, Foton head coach Fabio Menta declared that the semifinals is both a modest and tough goal.

“Making the semifinals will be tough, but that is still our goal,” Menta said in a press conference at the Crimson Hotel in Alabang. “We haven’t been able to practice as a complete team due to our players having commitments with work and school.”

“We’re a young team, but I think we have what it takes to reach our goal especially with the boost we’re going to get from our home fans,” continued the Italian mentor had only been with the team for two weeks.

Games will be held at the Alonte Sporte Arena in Biñan, Laguna. Foton is in Group A and will take on Pocari Sweat from Hong Kong. Getting a win will be imperative for Foton if they look to make it out of the group stage.

Pocari Sweat will make their first appearance in the tournament and are looked at as Foton’s best chance to advance.

“Like us, Hong Kong is a young team. They’re going to be a tough challenge for us. Hopefully, we can continue to build on what we’ve worked on in our short time together,” Menta closed.
