The Adamson University Soaring Falcons were on the verge of winning their second game of the season.

Up against defending UAAP Men’s Basketball Champions, the National University Bulldogs, the young Falcons squad, led by big men Pape Sarr and Ivan Villanueva, plowed through the paint to go up for the majority of the game. With 22.7 ticks to go, and with Adamson up 70-67, the “breaks of the game” went in favor of Jay Alejandro and the Bulldogs.

Jerome Garcia contested an open corner three by the junior NU guard. The attempt of Garcia to defend the shot was right on the side of Alejandro, as replays showed it, with the former Malayan Red Robin selling the bump. It resulted to three free throws for the Bulldog. In disgust of the call, Garcia, who was already warned by the officials for continuous complaining, was called for a technical as he questioned the call. It resulted to four free throws that gave the Bulldogs a solitary point lead.

The game headed into overtime but tired legs and fatigue set in for the San Marcelino cagers. The end result? An 85-79 loss for the hapless Adamson squad, their ninth for the season.

“Breaks of the game, judgment call,” a calm coach Mike Fermin reflected about the game.

Philippine Sports News - Tiebreaker Times Fermin, Adamson call for clarification in crucial foul call During that crucial sequence in the fourth quarter, Fermin recalled asking the referee what Garcia did to warrant the foul. “I asked the referee kung ano ang ginawa ni Jerome. Sabi ng referee coach kulang ka na ng players dahil five fouls na si Jerome,” the Adamson mentor disclosed. “I asked Jerome (to tell what happened), tumungin lang siya sa akin. ‘Wala akong ginawa coach,’ sabi niya. Hindi niya tinamaan.”

Asked if the team is planning to file a protest, Fermin, showing pride for the valiant stand his squad showed, will not do so. “Well, it’s a judgment call but we will seek clarification,” he said. “We will just review the tape at hindi na magproprotesta.”

“We are tough men and we will accept the loss,” he closed.
