Defending champions Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals solidified their hold on the top spot with a straight-sets win over Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, while San Sebastian College – Recolletos Golden Stags registered their first win after dispatching Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals in a similar fashion, Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan City.
The title-holders disposed of the Knights in three sets, 25-20, 25-14, 25-20, to take their fourth consecutive win of the season. EAC dominated the match with 38 attacks against the Knights’ 27, with reigning Most Valuable Player Howard Mojica scoring 14 of these spikes. The Generals also punished Letran’s reception with 11 service aces. Mojica had 18 total points to lead the troops, while Hariel Doguna provided 12 markers for EAC. Letran were once again led by skipper Harold Reyes with 9 points while Bobby Gatdula also contributing 9.

In the day’s last game, it was San Sebastian who walked away with their first win, sweeping Mapua, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21. The Stags showed their hunger from the get-go and never looked back. San Sebastian just about edged Mapua in attacks, 35-34, but completely dominated them in blocks despite the presence of taller players from the latter, 11-3. Richard Tolentino and Christian Calonia led the net patrol with 4 blocks each, leading to 21 and 10 total markers, respectively. Philip Bagalay carried the fight for Mapua with 13 points.
