‘The Dragon’ set to invade Manila

After much clamor from Fight Fans, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida will finally visit Manila.

ABS-CBN Sports has confirmed that Machida will visit the country for a promotional tour and an open workout on November 18, 2015. A venue has yet to be confirmed by the hosts.

In the past, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has sent over former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, welterweight Carlos Condit, light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson, and heavyweight Alistair Overeem for promotional purposes and fan interaction. The mixed martial artists also promoted the sport as well. This year will be no different as the 37 year old Brazilian is known to be an excellent ambassador for the sport.

The Shotokan Karate practitioner took the MMA world by storm as he went undefeated in his first 16 fights. Highlighting the amazing run was a scintillating knockout win over Rashad Evans at UFC 98 to win the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. After a bad run in his next fights, “The Dragon” dropped down to middleweight. The Salvador, Brazil-native currently has a 22-7 slate, losing his last two against top middleweight contenders Yoel Romero and Luke Rockhold.

Truly, this visit of the future hall-of-famer will be a treat for the Filipino fight fans.
