DLSU Green Jins cap-off day 2 with match-sweep of UP

After the upset the NU Bulldogs handed the defending champions, the Green Jins vented out against the UP Fighting Maroons in the form of a match-sweep to go into Day 3 tied with the UE Red Jins for 2nd place.

Paolo Jazmines opened the DLSU onslaught with a 5-3 win over Rannie Mercado in the flyweight match. Kevin Sia then forced Juztin Castillo into 8 kyonggo’s to win in the 2nd round via stoppage due to the referee’s punitive decision. Josafat Licayan blasted Josiah Cabanag in the 2nd round to win the bantamweight bout 19-8. Kyle Uy and Sean Rodriguez stalled all the way in their match-up that led to a 2-0 win for Uy. Keith Sembrano and Karlos Gaerlan dominated their opponents as well. In the final match, it was a heavyweight match the arena has been waiting for. Last year’s UAAP Heavyweight gold medalist Kristoffer Uy facing unbeaten Guillano de Dios. However, Kris Uy’s wealth of experience over Guillano de Dios proved the difference in the bout. Kris Uy’s excellent defense stymied the length of de Dios en route to a 9-6 win for Uy and the complete sweep of UP.
