Devin Fikes bids UE goodbye, heads back to Canada


After just two seasons at University of the East, Devin Fikes has decided to part ways with the Red Warriors, opting to return home to Canada.

Fikes, a 6-foot-5 wing out of Scarborough Prep, made the announcement through a heartfelt social media post, confirming that he will not be transferring to another Philippine university — a move that had fueled speculation among fans following his sudden departure.

“Thank you UE! I did not know the post were coming so soon and thought I would be able to break the news myself but now that everything is out, I will be going back to school in Canada and will not be transferring to another school in the Philippines as the only school I would be playing for is where I am right now,” Fikes wrote.

His exit marks the second major loss for the Red Warriors this month, following the transfer of Rainer Maga to University of the Philippines.

Fikes was recruited to Recto by then-UE head coach Jack Santiago in 2023, with high hopes that his size and athleticism could bolster the rebuilding Red Warriors program.

In his rookie season in UAAP Season 86, Fikes played only nine games before a season-ending knee injury derailed his campaign.

He returned stronger in his sophomore year, showing flashes of his potential.

He averaged 6.47 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game in Season 87.

Fikes ultimately chose to prioritize his education and long-term goals.

“I want to say thank you to the coaches, managers, kuya’s, teammates and especially the community. Thank you again UE for all the support and I hope you guys understand! Thank you,” he added.
